FAQ

Does it work on budget shared hosting?

Yes. The plugin is built lightweight-first with minimal database overhead and efficient queries that work well on budget hosting.

Where is my data stored?

Right in your WordPress database, completely under your control. No cloud services, no third-party trackers, no privacy policies to worry about.

Is this GDPR compliant?

Yes, by design. No personal data collection, no external tracking, no data transfers—just anonymous view counts stored locally on your server.

Does it slow down my website?

No. The tracking script is under 5KB and loads asynchronously—that’s 10x smaller than Google Analytics. Your visitors won’t notice any difference.

Will it work with my caching plugin?

Yes. The JavaScript runs client-side after the page loads, so it works independently of server-side caching. This includes CDNs like Cloudflare.

Do I need to configure anything?

Nope. Install, activate, and it starts tracking immediately. No configuration needed.

How much does it cost?

Free during development. Basic view stats will always be free—we’re still finalizing our pricing strategy for additional features.

How do I get support?

No formal support during development. The plugin is designed to be simple and self-explanatory. Give it a try and hopefully you’ll agree!

Can I see historical data?

Yes. You can navigate to past weeks using the chart interface. The data retention period is 60 days, after which older data is automatically removed.

What happens if I deactivate the plugin?

Your data stays in your WordPress database. Reactivating the plugin will restore access to all your historical stats.

How do I install it?

Download the ZIP, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin in wp-admin, upload, then activate.

Is the plugin available on WordPress.org?

Not yet! We’re considering a release on WordPress.org, but for now, you can download it directly from our website.

Can I take it for a test drive?

Yes! Use TasteWP to spin up a temporary test site with ABC Stats pre-installed. Browse around to generate some traffic, then check the dashboard to see your stats in action.

Does it have my favourite feature?

Probably not! ABC Stats is intentionally simple and skips the “table stakes” features found in most analytics plugins. We believe less is more—fewer features means less confusion and a cleaner experience.
